Invotec Group: Opens Formal Apprentice Scheme

Added 08/10/2012

Leading European manufacturers of time critical printed circuit boards, Invotec Group is developing its Student/Graduate Apprentice programme. After a successful trial in 2011, Invotec has taken two apprentices over the past quarter and will be looking to the future for further intake. The programme will offer apprentices the chance of real career opportunities in high technology manufacturing, at both our Telford and Tamworth facilities.
Apprentices undertake a Level 3 Engineering Manufacture (Craft and Technician) apprenticeship. The framework of qualifications are designed to provide the skills, knowledge and competence requirements to operate at craft or technician level as appropriate for the employers engineering sector.

After successfully completing the course, apprentices will be offered positions within our skilled workforce.

CV’s are reviewed and successful interviewees enter a fully structured apprentice scheme that includes practical training with a dedicated mentor, education in technology and fabrication techniques and learning materials.

Rick Payne – Lead CI Engineer commented, “Our programme represents the opening phases of our long term plan to strengthen our Technical function and bring on the next generation of Engineers dedicated to maintaining and developing our processes and manufacturing capability.

Invotec Group has forged strong links with Warwickshire College to develop an Electronics Engineering Apprenticeship pathway which will provide our young engineers with a solid theoretical background, whilst at the same time giving the business the flexibility to deploy and develop them as valuable technical support as either Process, Manufacturing, Quality, Laboratory or Front End/CAD CAM engineers.

Our apprentices spend their first twelve months working within the CI Department, learning essential Process control, Lean Manufacturing and Process Improvement skills. They are deployed on placements in key areas within the business to develop a 30,000 Feet Overview of the Company and its operations. They play active roles in process and business Improvement activities, gaining invaluable teamwork, and project management skills.

After their initial year the apprentices are deployed to support our senior Engineers, continuing their practical workplace education with some of the finest technical experts in the UK PCB industry.

Managing and mentoring young people as they take their first steps in industry is both challenging and time consuming, but it is an essential investment which Invotec is both happy and proud to make, bringing as it does the fresh blood and new perspectives into our business, which will ensure that our current expertise is handed down to a next generation of skilled Engineers, and that we bring innovation and creativity to the development of products and manufacturing processes, now and in the future.”

Apprentice intake will take place in August each year. The next intake will be August 2013, however the recruitment process will commence January 2013.

To apply for a place on the apprenticeship programme, CV’s should be sent to Corrina Morris, HR Manager at [email protected].
